American Petroleum Institute gives first SM Certification to green motor oi
The American Petroleum Institute (API) has awarded its first SM Certification to a bio-based motor oil.
Green Earth Technologies' G-OIL Ultimate Biodegradable motor oil is the first green product of its kind to pass all engine test criteria necessary to earn the certification, making it the only API-approved eco-friendly oil on the market.
The oil is derived from American-grown renewable animal fats that are composed of single-bond carbon chains similar to commonly used petroleum oils. The product does not cause any harmful effects to the environment and, if used more widely, may help diminish America's reliance on foreign oil.
Jeffrey Loch, founder and CMO of Green Earth Technologies, said the product "strives to create a new green solution within the motor oil category."
National Auto stores, a family-owned auto parts retailer in eastern Pennsylvania, will be the first to offer G-OIL as an "eco-conscious alternative," said David Stein, its president. The product will be available in National Auto Stores beginning October 1.
Green innovations in such sectors as the automotive industry are expected to cause the demand for environmental specialists to rise by 25 percent over the next seven years. Bachelors and associates programs exist for those wishing to pursue a career in this field.
