Ashford University introduces new online degree program in environmental st
Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, has announced that it will offer a bachelors program in environmental studies.
The program will examine the relationships between humans and their environments and how mankind impacts the natural world.
The degree will be available online and for students already pursuing degrees on the university's campus. The program has been accredited as a postsecondary academic degree program by the Higher Learning Commission and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Dr Elizabeth Tice, the university's provost, said the new concentration aims to address "the greatly expanded use of our natural resources by the industrial growth of nations throughout the world."
She added that the degree is intended to "provide the educational foundation for students to understand and manage the environment."
The curriculum is intended to prepare students for careers in fields such as conservation planning, ecological surveying, environmental impact analysis, natural resource specialization, restoration and climate activism.
The implementation of such new bachelors programs is indicative of a growing need for experts in environmental science. The demand for specialists in this field is expected to increase by 25 percent over the next seven years.
