Environmental agencies in New Jersey recognize efforts of grant recipients
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership (CWRP) held an inaugural recognition event for groups who have made efforts to protect the state's aquatic habitats.
The two organizations partnered to thank 10 recipients of CWRP grants for their restoration and beautification projects in New Jersey's wetlands.
The grants were awarded as a part of the joint efforts of the DEP and CWRP to protect the environment statewide. This initiative addresses far-reaching ecological concerns such as the quality of drinking water, preservation of wildlife habitats, flood control and recreational space linked to tourism.
The projects focused particularly on "endangered species protection, critical habitat restoration and water quality improvement," said Mark Mauriello, acting commissioner of the DEP.
Russ Furnari, New Jersey chairman of the CWRP, called such efforts "proof that corporations, communities and government bodies can work together and improve the environment."
Those interested in furthering restoration efforts may consider entering associates or bachelors programs in environmental science. The demand for specialists who have completed such bachelors in this field is expected to grow by 25 percent over the next seven years.
