Website helps students launch careers in the green sector
Bio Career Center, a website that helps graduates of green-related degree programs find careers, has announced Northwestern University and Columbia University have joined its job board.
The two universities are among 24 other top schools across the country that have given their students access to the site.
Intended for graduates of masters or doctoral programs in life sciences, the website features industry articles, assessment tools, job postings and a career resource center.
Employers from a wide variety of industries - including academia, biopharmaceuticals, consulting, public health, science policy and government - currently post career opportunities on the website's job board, which is intended to shorten the hiring process.
Kathryn Espiritu, director of Columbia's Post Doctoral Affairs Department, said the service appeals to the school's "diverse group" of graduates because it could "provide some great career advertisement."
Jobseekers who wish to take advantage of similar career placement services may consider enrolling in associates, bachelors or masters programs in sustainable management or environmental science as these industries continue to grow.
The demand for environmental scientists and specialists, whose median annual earnings were $56,100 in May 2006, is expected to grow by 25 percent over the next seven years.
