Another DC building earns Top Energy Rating
Those who plan to pursue a masters degree in architecture may be interested to know that another building has been awarded The EPA Energy Star rating.
The 12-story, 313,603-square-foot office building located in the Central Business District of Washington DC is now among the most efficient buildings in the nation.
In order to earn the green certification, the company says it replaced the air handlers in most of the building.
The new units supply fresh air using 25 percent less energy for a similar-sized office building. In addition to that, the timing of the operation of the building's boilers and chillers was improved to better meet the needs of the tenants while not using excess energy to heat and cool the building when it is not needed.
With the new administration determined to promote and support green construction and energy generation, future business career opportunities in these sectors are likely to be high. Those who are currently heading to college or thinking about switching careers may therefore consider a bachelor or masters program in green architecture.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predict the growth of demand for architects will average 18 percent over the next seven years, with salaries for some in the field exceeding $104,000.
Experts also agree that those with knowledge of and experience in green design will do particularly well.
