Woodbury University's School of Architecture to receive federal funding to
Woodbury University in Burbank, California, announced it will receive a $3.4 million in federal grants to benefit the masters program at its School of Architecture.
The U.S Department of Education will give the school the Promoting Post-baccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPOHA) grant worth $2.8 million to upgrade technological offerings, add one- and three-year options to its degree program and provide financial aid to exceptional Hispanic students.
A second $600,000 grant from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development will support the university's Arid Lands Institute (ALI), which aims to find water conservation solutions for low-income areas.
The funds will be used to enable students and faculty to provide planning and design solutions for sustainable water and energy to help communities adapt to climate change.
Norman Millar, dean of the School of Architecture, said the grant will go toward "important work that will be done."
Bachelors or masters programs in architecture may lead to career opportunities for those wishing to explore designing and building solutions for the changing climate. The demand for architects -- particularly those with green design skills - is expected to grow by 18 percent over the next seven years.
