Green Power Market boosted by Wind Energy

Updated: Monday, July 20th, 2009

With the passage of the American Clean Energy and Security Act, more companies have been researching how best they can break into the green power market by manufacturing resources to harness renewable energy.

As a result, the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab at the U.S. Department of Energy has produced the results of a study that indicates wind power is now the fastest-growing renewable energy source.

The study found that in 2008, companies invested $16 billion in new wind power initiatives and that this increase in the use of this alternative energy is spread across the country. Texas came out on top having acquired 7,118 MW of new wind capacity last year.

Overall, wind power capacity increased 60 percent in the U.S, with 13 states introducing 500 MW of wind power.

Mark Bolinger who co-authored the report explains the value of this document and how it will benefit the green power market.

"[T]he need for timely, objective information on the industry and its progress has never been greater," he said, explaining that "keeping up with trends in the marketplace has become increasingly difficult," and that this report will better inform industry professionals.

Those interested in entering the green power market will find many online resources for information on careers in this field nationwide.
