New worldwide concern over sustainability, renewable energy

Updated: Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

ndividuals across the country may do their part to help the environment and a new survey reveals that they are not alone on a global scale. Consumers in countries as far away as China hope to promote renewable energies and other green policies.

The survey was conducted by several companies in the WPP agencies group - a communications conglomerate. Ultimately, the researchers learned that consumers in China, Brazil and India thought similarly about green products while residents of the UK, US, France and Germany shared views.

In Brazil, 38 percent of respondents were willing to spend 30 percent or more on green products, while in the U.K, 8 percent indicated as such.

However, consumers feel it is important that companies promote environmentally friendly or sustainable products as 77 percent of those surveyed considered this to be important to them.

Chief strategy officer of Landor Associates one of the WWP partners explained that "this year's findings in both developed and developing countries reinforces consumers' desires to be green by using products that are green."

Companies may therefore benefit from heeding this feedback and developing green products or items made by renewable energy sources.
