Nissan kicks off tour of new wholly electric vehicle
Nissan has announced the launch of the North American tour of its recently released LEAF, a completely electric and emission-free vehicle.
The car will travel to college campuses in 22 cities across the country as well as the District of Columbia and Vancouver to raise awareness about the vehicle and emission reduction among students, drivers, civic partners and businesses.
Students at each of the universities participating in the tour will have the opportunity to win scholarships through the Nissan LEAF Zero Emissions Student Competition. The company will choose one winner at each school to receive a $500 scholarship.
To enter the competition, students are required to explain how the new model has affected their expectations for an emission-free future in 200 words or less.
Scott Becker, senior vice president of finance and administration for Nissan North America, said the contest aims to showcase "the important role students play in shaping a zero-emissions future."
Students who are interested in working toward environmentally friendly transportation solutions may use such awards to finance associates, bachelors or masters programs in sustainable management or renewable energy that could lead to careers in environmental engineering.
Opportunities in this field are expected to grow by 25 percent over the next seven years and offered median annual salaries of $69,940 in May 2006.
