Renewable Energy funding for Texas
Money from the Recovery and Reinvestment Act is still being distributed around the country and now renewable energy initiatives in Texas will benefit from some of the funds.
The State Energy Program (SEP) is set to receive almost $220 million to promote the use of renewable energy throughout the state and to educate the next generation about how best to use sustainable resources.
Some of the money will go towards the building efficiency program to make existing public sector structures greener by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting energy-efficient electric systems. These conversions should create job opportunities for those in the industry.
Other funds will go towards public education and outreach and energy sector training centers to help employ those interested in the field, but also to help the workforce stay on top of new careers and industry trends in green energy.
The Houston Business Journal quotes Texas controller, Susan Combs, citing her enthusiasm for the new programs that will emerge from these funds.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for agencies in state and local government to move forward with projects that will save valuable taxpayer dollars through energy efficiency," she said.
In addition, the passage of American Clean Energy and Security Act, makes the present advantageous for those interested in working in the renewable energy field.
