Sumitomo Corporation Purchases Interest in Texas Wind Farm

Updated: Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Sumitomo Corporation of America has announced it is entering the international business of wind energy with the purchase of an interest in a 120MW wind farm in Martin County, Texas.

The company has purchased a 42.5 percent share in Stanton Wind Energy L.L.C. which utilizes 80 1.5MW GE turbines and commenced its commercial operations in February 2008. The remaining share will be held by GE Energy Financial Services and Invenergy group.

This 120MW wind power facility, when compared to coal power plants, will contribute to a reduction of approximately 800,000t CO2 emissions annually and 20,000,000t over 25 years, the company says.

It also stresses the prospects for a bright business future for the renewable energy industry given the support of the Obama administration's Green New Deal Policy, and it says among all renewable energy sources the wind power market is expected to have the highest growth potential.

People who run energy companies are often graduates of MBA programs, while many of those who are in charge of the scientific part of the operations hold degrees in environmental sciences.

There are many schools across the country offering masters and PhD programs that interested candidates may explore, keeping in mind that job growth for environmental scientists is expected to average 25 percent over the next several years and salaries have already exceeded $94,670.ADNFCR-2291-ID-19287251-ADNFCR
