U.S Department of Energy provides $87 million to fund solar energy initiati
Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced the availability of nearly $90 million in grants that will support the proliferation of solar energy technologies.
The U.S. Department of Energy will distribute the funds to 47 organizations to help them embark solar energy projects, including its national laboratory, universities, electric power utilities and local governments.
Supported projects have goals such as addressing technical challenges, ensuring connectivity through electrical grid use, and training new workers who can install and maintain solar energy systems.
The U.S. Department of Energy used four categories to determine its beneficiaries: High Penetration Solar Deployment, Solar America Cities Special Projects, Solar Installer Training and Research projects at U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratories.
All projects are working toward the ultimate goal of achieving cost-efficient solar electricity by 2015 and fostering widespread commercial use of solar technologies.
The funds are intended to support initiatives that can "create new jobs and a clean energy future" by "accelerat[ing] the use of solar energy by residents, businesses and communities and promote the long-term viability of solar energy."
Associate, bachelor and master's programs in sustainable management, green power generation and renewable energy provide the right credentials to attain government grants and funding for solar energy and other sustainable energy businesses.
