Transportation company the first to join Maryland Green Registry
CSX - a Florida-based rail, intermodal and rali-to-truck transloading company - has announced it has been selected to join the Maryland Green Registry.
The company is the first transportation enterprise selected by the registry, which already includes organizations in the environmental management and leadership, waste reduction, energy and water conservation as well as green building and design sectors.
More than 80 members of the voluntary self-certification program are recognized for their commitment to promoting sustainable practices.
The registry aims to help such organizations "share their stories and inspire others to take steps to protect our air, land and water," said Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley at the state's Chamber of Commerce Business and Policy, where CSX's induction into the program was announced.
The transportation company was selected for its devotion to environmental sustainability, including its recent plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its vehicles by 2.4 million tons.
Individuals wishing to promote environmental friendliness in their careers or workplace gain a competitive edge through associates, bachelors or masters programs in sustainable management or environmental engineering.
Job opportunities in the growing field of environmental engineering, which paid a median annual salary of $69,940 in May 2006, are expected to increase by 25 percent over the next seven years.
