Colorado State University to partner with Veterans Green Jobs

Updated: Friday, November 13th, 2009

Colorado State University has announced it will team up with Veterans Green Jobs to bring a Veterans Green Jobs Education Initiative to its campus.

The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding Thursday to formalize a partnership to encourage veterans to pursue undergraduate and graduate degree programs in environmentally driven subjects.

Over the next year, the non-profit organization plans to create programs that will train veterans for careers in the green job sector. Colorado State is the first four-year institution to officially join in these efforts.

Rapid training programs offered by the organization and its partners will provide veterans with skills they will need to enter new markets that were created by the energy efficiency and weatherization measures included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Careers targeted by these programs include weatherization program management, solar panel and wind turbine installation, home rebuilding and retrofitting as well as urban and wildlife restoration.

Tony Frank, president of Colorado State University, said the partnership will aim to "help provide [veterans] with a second career after their military service" while boosting "Colorado’s new energy economy."

Associates, bachelors and masters programs in sustainable management, renewable energy or green architecture can help individuals launch careers in the emerging green jobs sector.

The demand for conservation scientists, whose median annual earnings were $54,970 in May 2006, are expected to grow by 5 percent over the next seven years.ADNFCR-2291-ID-19462969-ADNFCR
