FAA grant will help George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston reduce

Updated: Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

A new grant from the Federal Aviation Administration may boost business career prospects in Houston as it will pay for the installation of state-of-the-art equipment at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) that is expected to reduce emissions.

A total of $8.8 million will be used to purchase new solar panels, heaters and chillers for the airport's central operating plant which controls the air conditioning and heating throughout the five terminals.

"This meets two of our major goals as we continue to improve our airport system - operating more efficiently, and with significantly reduced emissions," says Mayor Bill White who was joined by the Houston Airport System in announcing the funding.

Meanwhile, Eric Potts, interim director of aviation for the city of Houston, stresses the project will allow IAH to significantly reduce its environmental footprint.

Those who would like to benefit from the government's efforts to promote sustainable management and green business solutions may enroll in a green MBA program. For those who would rather participate in developing sustainable technologies of tomorrow there are bachelors or masters programs in environmental sciences.

Government estimates suggest a dynamic growth in demand for environmental scientists over the next seven years, with job growth in the field averaging 25 percent during that time. Salaries for such specialists are expected to exceed $94,670.
