Federal rebate expected to save energy, boost business
Media reports suggest consumers may soon benefit from subsidies for energy-efficient appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, a move that may boost business career opportunities in that sector.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the federal government is planning to designate $300 million in stimulus money to help the states develop appropriate programs, with Maryland alone expected to receive as much as $5.4 million.
"Retiring older, less efficient appliances is the single most cost-effective step a consumer can take to save money and energy," says Joseph M. McGuire, president of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, quoted by the source.
"This rebate program was a top legislative priority of the industry to help stimulate demand and provide immediate energy and utility cost savings," he adds.
While environmental scientists and engineers shape policy debate and contribute to technical breakthroughs making energy efficiency possible, managers with knowledge of environmental issues will be in demand to help develop green-oriented businesses.
Many accredited MBA programs offer green specializations, so interested individuals are encouraged to explore opportunities at schools around the country, as research suggests holders of MBA degrees make, on average, between $73,510 and $171,583 a year.
