Green Dream Jobs announces top positions, cities for green employment oppor
Green Dream Jobs, an online service that links green employers with potential employees, has released a list of the top eco-friendly job titles and the best cities in which to obtain them.
The company reports that positions are spreading across many industries and increasingly many companies adopt green practices and policies.
The top five environmentally friendly careers are executive director of a non-profit organization, project leader or manager, sustainability program director, sales/business development associate and marketing manager, according to the company.
"Most people think of energy auditing and renewable energy as green jobs, but leading non-profit organizations are major employers and need people to run projects," said Rona Friend, CEO of SustainableBusiness.com, Green Dream Jobs' parent company.
Washington, DC's high concentration of nonprofit organization earned it Green Dream Jobs top ranking among the best cities for such jobs. Other cities, including San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Boston, Chicago, Portland and Burlington, were recognized based on their aggressive green business incentives and policies.
Bachelors and masters programs in sustainable management are clearly a ticket into this high-demand area of a strong growth sector. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, environmental scientists and specialists can earn more than $94,670 annually.
