Green Job Training gets boost from Obama Stimulus Package

Updated: Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Going back to school has never been more important or easy, as institutions across the country are set to receive a portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to provide education and training for "new economy" jobs.

At least 19 organizations in the Sacramento area of California have already received the funding - with one school benefitting from $210,950 in stimulus money - to boost their classroom training for green jobs, including green facility management and building, according to the Sacramento Business Journal.

"Sustainable facilities management has been designated as a high-growth job area by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, so this training will have both immediate and long-term usability," said Alice Tom, dean of the College of Continuing Education, one of the schools which benefitted from the program, quoted by the news source.

"The training will prepare workers for high-wage jobs with career advancement opportunities," added Tonii Ramirez, another school official.

According to Indeed.com, a jobs information website, the average sustainable building program manager salaries for job postings nationwide is $ 81,340. In places like Americus, Georgia, it is even higher, reaching $ 83,000.

Interested candidates may therefore explore relevant associates or bachelors programs available in their area.
