Long Island organizations recognized for sustainable management initiatives
The Happague Industrial Association has announced it will hold the Long Island Go Green Environmental and Energy Conference this Friday, where local organizations will be honored for their sustainable management initiatives.
Clean Air Champions awards will be given to seven Long Island-based schools, businesses and municipal organizations from the New York State Department of Transportation's Clean Air NY initiative.
The program aims to promote air-quality efforts that will ensure a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and healthier air in the state, where 65 percent of residents are exposed to life-threatening levels of air pollution, according to the American Lung Association.
Adelphi University, BAE Systems, Broadridge Financial Solutions, Clever Devices, Nassau County, Wales-Darby and Winthrop University Hospital will all be named Clean Air Champions at the conferences. The organizations were selected based on initiatives such as incentives for carpoolers, mass transit promotion, meal provisions to eliminate the need for workers to leave for lunch and guaranteed ride home benefits.
Individuals wishing to benefit from an increasing demand for environmental specialists may consider enrolling in associates, bachelors or masters programs in sustainable management or renewable energy. For example, opportunities for environmental engineers are expected to grow by 25 percent over the next seven years. In May 2006, median earnings for these professionals were $69,940 per year.
