Long Island to adopt green fuel treatment system for school busses
L&M Bus Company, which operates a school bus fleet on Long Island, has announced it will begin using a cleaning additive in the diesel fuel powering its vehicles.
The company has recently completed a trial of Green Planet Group's XenTx Extreme Diesel Treatment - which is intended to reduce the harmful effects of diesel fuel emissions - and decided to use the product to treat its entire fleet.
Edmond Lonergan, president and CEO of the Green Planet Group, said the product aims to keep harmful chemicals from diesel fuel from being released by automobiles in order to prevent "such serious health problems as asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, retarded lung development, increased emergency room visits for respiratory illness as well as cancer."
The additive is currently being tested by other bussing companies across New York, including Pride Transportation Services and WE Transport.
As more transportation companies adopt environmentally friendly initiatives, the demand for environmental engineers with training from associates, bachelors and masters programs in sustainable management or green power generation and renewable energy will grow.
Job opportunities for engineers with such skills, whose earnings in May 2006 were as high as $106,230, are projected to increase by 11 percent over the next seven years.
