Massachusetts governor honoured for sustainable management initiatives
In celebration of National Energy Awareness month, Conservation Services Group has recognized advocates of sustainable management, the environment and energy efficiency today, including Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick.
The non-profit organization, which offers energy-saving strategies, program designs, sustainable management systems and renewable energy technologies, presented 15 awards to champions of the environment.
Companies, executives and government officials were among the awardees. More than 200 environmental advocates, politicians and state officials attended the event, which also marked the organization's Silver Anniversary.
Governor Patrick was given the Excellence in Environmental Advocacy award for his administration's environmentally conscious initiatives.
Stephen Cowell, the organization's CEO, said Patrick's "exceptional leadership has enabled significant victories for [the green] industry, including the Massachusetts Communities Act, the Global Warming Solutions Act and the Green Jobs Act."
Associates, bachelors and masters programs in sustainable management or renewable energy may help jobseekers take advantage of growing opportunities in the alternative energy sector.
The U.S. Department of Energy suggests the wind energy sector - which employed 16,000 people in construction and maintenance alone in 2006 - could contribute to up to 20 percent of the nation's electricity by 2030 and create many new careers in electrical power. For example, electric power distributors earned $63,320 annually in 2007, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
