Retail Industry Leaders Association and Coalition for Responsible Transport
The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) and the Coalition for Responsible Transportation (CRT) will work together to decrease diesel emissions in and around ports nationwide.
The two organizations finalized a partnership at Tuesday's RILA Transportation and Infrastructure Committee meeting in Arlington, Virginia. The collaboration will officially go into effect October 1.
Members of the CRT include shippers, ocean carriers, drayage providers and equipment manufacturers who have already committed to reduce their individual greenhouse gas emissions to improve port air quality. Ports of focus have included those in Oakland, Seattle, Tacoma, New York and New Jersey.
Case Chroust, executive vice president for retail operations for RILA, said the partnership is intended to "allow retailers and the broader shipping community to collaborate to achieve shared goals."
Those interested in air quality control may take advantage of the growing demand for environmental scientists by enrolling in associates or bachelors programs. The need for specialists in this field is expected to grow by 25 percent over the next seven years.
