Women Presidents' Organization and Sam's Club to host seminars in sustainab
The Women Presidents' Organization, a peer advisory group for women-led businesses, has announced it will partner with Sam's Club to hold seminars on sustainable management.
A conference called Growing Green: Sustainability and Your Business, the second of three regional seminars planned, will be held on October 23 in Minneapolis.
At the conference, a panel of Women Presidents' Organization members will give presentations outlining how they have successfully implemented green practices at their businesses.
The organization reported that 54 percent of its members have taken steps to make their businesses more sustainable and 35 percent have expressed an interest in doing so.
Catherine Corley, vice president of insights for Sam's Club, said the seminars aim to "help women in business succeed by lowering their costs [and provide] sustainable tips" to foster "benefits for the environment and for the bottom line."
The savings businesses enjoy from sustainable efforts are one reason why the demand for environmental specialists is expected to grow by 25 percent over the next seven years.
Undergraduate and masters programs in sustainable management or renewable energy and green power generation may help women find opportunities with groups such as Energia and the Womens Major Group of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, which are working to incorporate women in sustainable energy policy development.
